Our journey, rooted in passion

Welcome to Spring Grove Alpines, where a life-long passion for dairy goats has blossomed into a thriving French Alpine herd in Burkeville, Virginia. Discover the story behind our herd, our dedication to the French Alpine breed, and the commitment that drives everything we do.

The humble beginnings: Maud and a life-long passion

My name is Jonathan Kindle, and my journey with dairy goats began in 1997 with a Toggenburg/Nubian cross named Maud. Maud was purchased from an "old goat guy" that looked a whole lot like Santa Claus. Her horns had been sawed off at some point, and she was a bit timid and stubborn, but she gave me an insight into the wonderful world of dairy goats! Maud taught me early lessons in goat farming; some good, some bad. She was a great milker; but her adventurous spirit highlighted my desire for a more docile temperament in my herd. This realization set me on a path to find the perfect breed.

French Alpines: A breed apart

In 1998, my search led me to the Alpine. I acquired two American does from a local dairy, and I was instantly captivated. They were docile, they were heavy milkers, they were what I was looking for in a goat. The true transition to exclusively French Alpines occurred in 2003 when my family and I visited the renowned Iron Rod herd. We returned home with two stunning French doelings, solidifying my passion. The purchase of CH Iron Rod Supersonic Stealth in 2004 further deepened my commitment to these magnificent animals. Now, French Alpines is all that I raise.

The rebirth of a dream

Life took its course; college started, Stealth passed away, and I sold my French Alpine herd. Yet, the deep-seated interest in the breed never faded. In 2020, the dream was rekindled. I decided to start anew, committed to continuing the legacy of French Alpines for the rest of my days. I purchased two new does and a buck, and that brings you to the vibrant present of Spring Grove Alpines. We're dedicated to breeding healthy, productive, show worthy, and wonderfully docile French Alpines here in Burkeville, Virginia.
